In 1983 Bluder—a native of Marion—graduated from Northern Iowa. On the Panthers basketball team she started for three seasons.

The University of Virginia student-athlete Staley a Philadelphia native who enrolled there and helped the Cavaliers win four NCAA Tournament

Despite playing in three Final Fours and one national Championship game she has never taken home the trophy. When she graduated from UVA she had twice been named the nations best player and held multiple school records.

Afterwards she played professionally in the WNBA and ABL. Together with that she helped Team USA win three Olympic gold medals.

In her hometown Staley began her coaching career in 2000 at Temple University where she spent eight seasons and assisted the Owls in making six NCAA Tournament trips.

Throughout her tenure at Temple she continued to play in the WNBA earning three of her five All-Star Game honors while coaching and she retired after the 2006 season.

Bluder has been living in Iowa City for 23 years. The Bulldogs made five NCAA Tournament trips under her leadership during her ten seasons at Drake.

On April 7 2000 she was appointed the Hawkeyes head coach. She has never worked beyond the state of Iowa in her 39 years as a collegiate head coach.
