It is well known that Barcelona had made a bid for Bernardo Silva a colleague of Gundogans at Manchester City a top priority. The deal however was never feasible because of the clubs precarious status as a result of Financial Fair Play.

Barcelona is reportedly close to finalizing a deal to sign Gundogan from Bosman with a contract for Inigo Martinez also reportedly being in place. For the club to successfully register the two and any other players they sign their FFP difficulties must still be resolved it must be underlined.

Although insiders have told 90min that City wont try to press the matter with Gundogan because of his exceptional service over the years they have not given up hope that the 32-year-old would prolong his stay at the defending Premier League winners.

Gundogan scored twice on the last day of the 2021–2022 Premier League season giving the Citizens an incredible title-winning three points against Aston Villa. City manager Pep Guardiola confirmed in February that Gundogan “can do whatever he wants” following that performance.

With the club trying to reinvent themselves as a force in the winners League following back-to-back early exits from the tournament Gundogans probable presence at Barcelona would improve the depth of Xavis soon-to-be crowned La Liga winners.

Two years after leaving for Paris Saint-Germain due to the same financial problems that now haunt the club the Catalan giants are hoping to convince Lionel Messi to make a fairytale comeback to the club.
