Wade and his wife Gabrielle Union took their 4-year-old daughter Kaavia James to Miami Floridas Kaseya Center on Sunday where they showed her his jersey hanging in the rafters. In February 2020 Kaavia who was only a baby at the time and Union attended the ceremony to officially retire Wade’s Miami Heat jersey.
Wade was carrying his daughter when they recently visited and they were both sporting similar Udonis Haslem shirts. Kaavia glances up at the uniform before giving her father a hug as the man appears to be explaining something to her while pointing to his jersey in the rafter.
Wade posted additional photographs of the group with the comment “April 9th should be a holiday in Miami! on Easter Sunday.
One day following Zayas’s formal name change and gender assignment the pair noted that it “continues to be rough” when accepting the President’s Award at the NAACP Image Awards in Pasadena California in February.
“Zaya getting things right is everything I’ve wanted to do as your father. I’ve stood back and seen how classily you’ve handled the medias attention Wade remarked. “And even though it’s difficult I saw you leave that house each morning as your true self. I like the way you’ve tackled ignorance in our society. I am inspired by what you endure every day. To say your community is proud of you would be an understatement.
As your father I don’t have to shape who you will become or decide how your life will turn out he said. Your wants aspirations and goals are what I’m here to facilitate.
